How much you can borrow in Kuwait

The Central Bank of Kuwait sets the same limits for every bank, investment company and finance company it supervises. Your bank can offer you less than these limits, but not more.

Interest rates

For personal loans, the interest rate cannot be more than 3 percentage points above the Central Bank of Kuwait discount rate. With the discount rate at 3.5% (held in September 2026), that means up to 6.5%. Check your bank's current offer before you apply.

Flat rate or reducing rate?

A reducing rate charges interest only on what you still owe. A flat rate charges interest on the full amount for the whole period, so a flat rate looks lower on paper but usually costs about the same or more. This calculator shows the flat rate that matches your reducing rate, so you can compare offers.

For expatriates

Banks usually ask for a salary transfer and a salary certificate, and some limit loans for non-Kuwaitis to the value of their end of service indemnity.
